Digital Services Act Information
BestChef is an online platform under Regulation (EU) 2022/2065, the Digital Services Act. This page sets out how to contact us, how to report content, and how our content moderation decisions work.
Who operates BestChef
BestChef is operated by [TO BE COMPLETED BY OPERATOR BEFORE PUBLICATION - F2].
Registered address: [TO BE COMPLETED BY OPERATOR BEFORE PUBLICATION - F2]
Where we are not established in the European Union, our legal representative in the Union under Article 13 of the Digital Services Act is [TO BE COMPLETED BY OPERATOR BEFORE PUBLICATION - F2], at [TO BE COMPLETED BY OPERATOR BEFORE PUBLICATION - F2]. The Member State in which our legal representative resides or is established is [TO BE COMPLETED BY OPERATOR BEFORE PUBLICATION - F2], and our legal representative can be held liable for non-compliance with obligations under the Regulation.
Single point of contact for authorities (Article 11)
Member States' authorities, the European Commission, and the European Board for Digital Services can communicate with us directly and by electronic means at:
support@bestchef.app, with the subject line DSA AUTHORITY.
Named contact: [TO BE COMPLETED BY OPERATOR BEFORE PUBLICATION - F2]
Postal address: [TO BE COMPLETED BY OPERATOR BEFORE PUBLICATION - F2]
This is a monitored electronic point of contact. It is not an automated system. We keep these details up to date and publish them here.
Languages of communication
We accept and respond to communications from authorities in English.
We also accept communications in [TO BE COMPLETED BY OPERATOR BEFORE PUBLICATION
- F2], which is an official language of the Member State of our main
establishment in the Union.
Article 11(3) requires that the declared languages include at least one official language of the Member State of the provider's main establishment. The operator must complete the token above with that language once the establishment is determined. If the operator has no establishment in the Union, counsel should confirm which language applies through the legal representative under Article 13.
Single point of contact for users (Article 12)
If you use BestChef, you can contact us directly and rapidly by electronic means at:
support@bestchef.app
You can also reach us from inside the app, through the Report action on any recipe, comment, photo, or chef profile, and through Profile, then My Reports for anything about a decision that affects you.
You choose which of these to use. None of them relies solely on automated tools. A person reads messages sent to support@bestchef.app and a person handles appeals.
We aim to answer support email within 2 business days.
Languages for users
We answer users in English.
The BestChef app interface is available in the languages listed in the app under Settings, then Language. Where a translation is incomplete, the app tells you so on the language selection screen, and safety and legal notices may appear in English.
Reporting illegal content: notice and action (Article 16)
Anyone, whether or not they use BestChef, can tell us about content on BestChef they consider illegal.
From inside the app. Every piece of public content has a Report action: recipes and dish submissions, comments, photos and videos, vote proofs, and chef profiles. This is the fastest route, because it attaches the exact content and its evidence trail to your report automatically.
By email. Send your notice to support@bestchef.app with the subject line ILLEGAL CONTENT.
To let us act on your notice, please include all of the following:
- A sufficiently substantiated explanation of why you consider the content to be illegal.
- A clear indication of the exact location of the content. In the app, use the Report action, which captures this for us. By email, give us the chef handle and the recipe, comment, or profile, and a link or screenshot if you have one.
- Your name and email address. You do not need to give these for a report that concerns an offence referred to in Articles 3 to 7 of Directive 2011/93/EU, which cover offences concerning the sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of children and child pornography.
- A statement confirming your good-faith belief that the information and allegations in your notice are accurate and complete.
What happens next. We process notices in a timely, diligent, non-arbitrary, and objective manner. When you report from inside the app, the app confirms on screen that we have received your report. [PENDING WS-C: acknowledgement of receipt and notification of our decision to the person who reported. Do not publish this page until this bracket is resolved. See internal note.]
Automated means. Uploaded images and videos pass through automated screening before they become publicly visible. Our automated screening never approves content on its own when screening is unavailable or inconclusive. In that case the content is held and routed to a human reviewer, and it stays unpublished until a person decides. [PENDING WS-C: disclosure of the use of automated means inside the notification we send. Do not publish this page until this bracket is resolved. See internal note.]
Urgent safety. For content that endangers a child or a credible threat of harm, report the content in the app so moderators receive the evidence trail, and email support@bestchef.app with the subject line URGENT SAFETY. We prioritise these ahead of everything else.
Statement of reasons (Article 17)
When we restrict something you posted, we send you a statement of reasons. You receive it as a notification in the app, in your notifications feed.
The statement of reasons tells you:
- What we did. We may reject content, hide it, remove it, or quarantine media.
- What content it concerns, identified by type and by a reference to the item.
- The category of reason for the decision. The categories we use are child safety, sexual content, harassment, spam, violence, intellectual property, vote integrity, guidelines, and other.
- Whether an appeal is available to you.
We send a statement of reasons for restrictive decisions. We do not send one when we approve content or restore it after review, because those decisions are not adverse to you. Those decisions are still recorded in our internal audit trail.
We also send you a statement of reasons for the outcome of an appeal, telling you whether the original decision was upheld or overturned.
Appeals: internal complaint handling (Article 20)
If you think a decision about your content was wrong, you can contest it.
In the app. Go to Profile, then My Reports, open the decision, and choose Appeal.
By email. Write to support@bestchef.app.
Appeals are free. Submitting one costs you nothing.
How we handle appeals. A person reviews every appeal. Appeal outcomes are not decided by automated means alone. We handle appeals in a timely, non-discriminatory, diligent, and non-arbitrary manner. Where an appeal shows that our original decision was wrong, we reverse it without undue delay. We tell you the outcome either way, with our reasons.
The period during which you can lodge an appeal, and our target time to decide one, are recorded in the internal note at the end of this draft as an open item for the operator. See "Open items" below.
Out-of-court dispute settlement and other remedies
[TO BE COMPLETED BY OPERATOR BEFORE PUBLICATION - F2]
Counsel must complete this section. It depends on whether the operator falls within the micro and small enterprise exclusion in Article 19, which is an open question recorded in the internal note below. Nothing about out-of-court dispute settlement bodies is asserted here, because asserting it without that determination would be a claim we cannot support.
Nothing on this page limits your right to bring proceedings before a court, or to complain to your national Digital Services Coordinator or your data protection authority.
